A Butte native, Dan, has spent nearly all of his life in Montana. He attended college at Gonzaga University and graduated with honors with a double major in history and political science and a master’s degree in business. Following graduation, Dan continued his post-graduate education at Gonzaga by earning his Juris Doctorate in law in 1975.
Upon graduating from law school, Dan returned to his native home in Montana and began practicing law. He has had the privilege of representing his fellow Montana citizens before local, state and federal Courts since 1976. It has also been his privilege to serve as a judge in our community for three years.
During his tenure as a lawyer, Dan has handled all types of criminal and civil cases. Throughout his career, he served as a special prosecutor and has defended numerous criminal cases. Currently, he devotes his practice to a wide range of civil cases, as listed on our website in more detail.
Dan has assisted his clients with debt relief issues, including bankruptcy matters, over the past 30 years. During that time, he has encountered various issues and has developed the knowledge and expertise to assist people to resolve their financial matters.

Dan is married to Kathleen Sweeney, who recently retired as a teacher in the Butte School District. He is fortunate to have three biological children and five stepchildren in his life. Together, Dan and Kathy share seventeen grandchildren, all of whom bring them great joy and are very important in their lives. They enjoy traveling and attending college sporting events.
He has served on various community boards and has assisted as a volunteer on various community projects. In addition to his law practice, Dan has taught various classes in employment law and medical law at Highlands College in Butte.
